Management of municipal solid and liquid waste is one of the major environmental problems as inappropriate management causes hazards to the populace. In urban areas the municipal liquid waste may also contain nearby industrial waste, if not properly segregated.
MIEBRS provides following technical services on scientific management of municipal solid and liquid waste:
- Design of suitable liquid waste treatment facilities, like STP, duckweed pond, reed bed, bio-toilet, etc.
- Resource recovery in various forms, e.g. compost, biogas, recyclables, RDF (refused derived fuel), etc.
- Bio-methanation of wet organic solid waste to produce biogas / bio-CNG / electricity
- Environmental audit of waste to energy plants
- Efficient bio-composting /vermi-composting of organic solid waste
- Biomedical waste management
- Plastic waste management
- Bioremediation of legacy waste / dumpsites
- Design of material recovery facilities (MRF) for recycling of dry solid wastes
- Institutionalising informal recycling sector by training and capacity building
- Community participation, information, education and communication (IEC) for public awareness.
